A former rocket scientist (really) who has traveled the world, father, freedom lover, hates to stay indoors, and loves wild places, people and things. PC challenged, irreverent but always relevant and always looking to learn new things.

On this date 77 years ago our ancestors stepped up to become what we now call the Greatest Generation. They left factory life in the growing cities and rural life on farms across America to take up arms against a common enemy. Men and women interrupted and disrupted their lives almost overnight to come together for the common good and they changed the world. As preppers we should take a lesson from the fact that also on this date 77 years ago the United States government was unprepared for the war, one that it was about to be consumed by,…

Looking for a great way to do two things at once, checkout a great prepper stove and heat up some Thanksgiving leftovers, all without making another mess in the kitchen. Thanks to the people at ecozoom who sent me their Zoom Versa outdoor wood/charcoal stove I get to do just that. This is one substantial, solid outdoor stove that I tried with wood at home a few days ago, and the cheap pot you see in the picture below, and it was quick, efficient and best of all, smokeless with the seasoned wood I used. They recommend cast iron pots and…

As the year draws to a close and the parade of holidays lines up while winter in all its forms takes shape, we hope that on this holiday, where we as a people gave our first thanks, shared our hard obtained bounty with others who shared with us, and saw a future that allowed us to freely prosper and honor our God, The Prepper Journal hopes you are again with family and friends, in the warmth of their company, breaking bread in love and friendship as people have since the beginnings of recorded history, be it a feast or a…

One of our candidates for the most misused term in the English language – bulletproof. Throwing the ridiculous extremes aside (i.e., a 20′ thick titanium shielded building of 6,000 psi concrete reinforced with 50-cal rated .5″ thick ballistic 46/100 steel) bulletproof is a misnomer, just like water proof. And, two small tactical nukes fired from field artillery will defeat the above structure. The Prepper Journal talked of bullet proof, back in 2014 – Patrick Henry in a well written article. Thankfully technology has moved us somewhat ahead over the past 4 years. To be clear the correct term is bullet resistant (and…

Yesterday, November 6, 2018 is the newest day that will “live in infamy” in the upcoming decline of America. We as a people have taken a giant step backwards, most likely one that may eventually prove fatal. We have made a choice to ignore self achievement, prosperity for all and have decided to return to the path of an all knowing, all seeing and all controlling central government. George Orwell and Ann Rand much more the seers of the future that Nostradamus in my humble opinion. Open borders, unchecked immigration, gun control on steroids are just a few of the…

TODAY is the Day! “You have until Sundown (sort of.)” These people made the effort and voted: If you voted already then “Thank you!” from The Prepper Journal for exercising your right to have a say in your own future. The Mid Term elections this year are every bit as important as the Presidential Election Cycle because we are again, America, at a crossroads. We are at this crossroads yet again because the swamp is still not drained. The decision is clear, it is between continuing to move forward or doing a 180 and going backwards, period. The singular message of…

When I received a comment on denture cream it got me thinking about some practical realities. Denture cream? Yes, and it made sense, how does one get by when they run out of denture cream if it is something they use on a daily basis? Packing enough for 72 hours, no problem, but, in TEOTWAWKI what could you use as a substitute when the supply is finally exhausted? While it may be way down on the list of things to finger from a closed Walgreen’s or CVS after the SHTF, still, it has some other uses so it would eventually…

Preppers are planners and today is the day when a few safety tips for your home and family would be wise to put into place. Remove any garden hoses not behind closed gates and check these faucets occasionally to insure that no prankster has tampered with them. Park your cars in your garage or in well-lighted areas. The later in the evening it gets the more you should be looking before you throw open your front door. Use common sense, if it doesn’t look right, error on the side of safety. Halloween is on a school night this year, a Wednesday, so plan to close…

When I was in High School I ended up dating the cousin of a friend of mine over a long summer. Her name was Samantha, and she was what we called “geographically challenged” as she lived 55 miles away from me. And that 55 miles was all Los Angeles freeways, and all the horror stories about LA traffic have always been true. And though I had a car and a sense of direction, gas money and the fact that she lived with very strict grandparents, complicated things. So Samantha and I communicated by, are you ready, snail mail (and people…

As in any emergency, YOU are your own “first responder” and your actions in recognizing an emergency and taking a positive step to save your self are the single most important action you may have to make. It is a natural response to do the following: Freeze Question – “was that really a gun shot?” And then panic! NONE of these are going to save your life in a real situation, and in fact may cost you gravely as they waste seconds you may no longer have to spare. That’s why the repetitive training of professional first responder – police,…

Okay, so I have been checking the snail mail almost every day waiting for my “Battle Axe” to arrive. Now, if you are old school, a Battle Axe was to be avoided for a multitude of reasons: It was a politically incorrect term applied to an older hardened woman, singular of mind and purpose, uninterested in facts, reason or input, only satisfied when the target de jour had been destroyed – (sound familiar?) A wicked medieval weapon meant to maim, behead, and chop off body parts of a living combatant An accessory for attending a Renaissance Fare in costume (or…

With their ever growing popularity drones are indeed changing the landscape in surveillance, and with many very positive uses. Employed by many businesses and by government agencies at all levels they are now a widely used tool by the movie industry, the construction industry, agriculture industry, for forest management, and of course law enforcement. However, as with anything, when there is potential for doing good people will always find ways to do evil and this has become a growing concern to both civilians and many government agencies. What is the Military Doing With all the money in the world (from…

And it is upon us again, the anniversary of 911, the 17th. The images are still as stark as they were that faithful day. Not to be confused with Patriots Day celebrating the Battles of Lexington and Concord at the start of the American Revolutionary War, this new Patriots Day is a 21st Century day of remembrance that every Prepper should embrace and learn from. We were a naive nation at best without a full understanding of our enemies. Perhaps absorbed by the obtuse and cretinous rhetoric that was the norm from Washington D.C. and our Forth Estate. A few weeks ago I posted an article on items in our mail and among the items was the Hardcore Alpha Shield. Being a firm believer in body armor as an essential piece of home security equipment and in shields in particular as a quickly don’ed item that can be close to where you keep your primary home defense weapon, I wanted to expand on their value as a personal protection device, as something preppers should consider in their inventory of must-have items, even if it does not fit in your BOB. Note that this does not mean that I…

What is Labor Day and why is it not celebrated by The Prepper Journal? The first “Labor Day” in America was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City. It was a day organized by the Central Labor Union of New York, Brooklyn and New Jersey and consisted of demonstrations and a picnic, with the accent on workers demonstrations. It became a federal holiday in 1894. The same Central Labor Union later became the American Federation of Labor–Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The American Federation of autonomous Labor unions (AFL), founded in 1886, represented organized workers in the…

Pat Henry knew five (5) years ago. His anger directed at the Supreme Court and the power these nine (9) justices hold over every one of us in their execution of interpreting the constitution. That shook many of us to the core as this was a major blow to the Republic and a validation that imposed totalitarian rule was indeed sanctioned by the American left and now stamped as approved by the branch of government…
